  3. Eliminate vacant and dilapidated housing
  4. Provide a variety of affordable housing for all income levels
  5. Increase social interaction between neighbors
  6. Link needed services to residents that can benefit
  7. Provide recreation and after school programs
  8. Utilize the schools as Community Hubs which operate programs and adult classes in the evening
  9. Maintain a healthy community with access to health care.
  10. Support sustainability and protect the environment

  2. The community talks together, works together and builds connections that strengthen the community.
  3. Children and seniors are valued and nurtured by families and community support systems.
  4. There is a commitment to building a sense of community by promoting its asset and addressing its needs.
  5. People thriving through good jobs, housing and healthy places and spaces.
  6. People feel safe not fearing for their personal well-being.
  7. Education is valued and lifelong learning is celebrated, promoted and supported.
  8. There is a commitment to maximize the usage of public buildings that broaden/expand their potential as life enhancing spaces and places.
  9. A strong mixture of decent, safe and good housing for all incomes is actively promoted.
  10. The environment (nature and resources) are respected and valued for their contribution to mental and physical health of residents.

The East Decatur Community Improvement Association is a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life in East Decatur. We will make the community a place that people want to live, work, and play. We believe that engaged citizens participate in community life and decision-making.


We will accomplish this through:

  • Activities that bring people together and build community.
  • Engaging residents in deliberate community planning
  • Advocating on behalf of the community.
